A finger or two of Rye.

On this morning’s commute took a longer but scenic route to work. These backroads with no traffic lights and sparse traffic are really enjoyable.

Nail-biting cricket going on in the last India-England test match. 🏏

Beautiful summer evening! Life is good!

Rode my bike to work this morning. Feels good to get a workout in before starting the work day.

I just watched Foundation 3x02 “Shadows in the Math” trakt.tv/shows/fou… #trakt

This is starting to show up at work now. Please remind me…. who is paying the tariffs?

I just watched Foundation 3x01 “A Song for the End of Everything” trakt.tv/shows/fou… #trakt

Finally started watching Foundation season 3 last night. It is setting up so nicely. I liked the interesting turn in Demrezel story. She is not a character in the Foundation novels but the showrunners are doing a great job with the storyline by adding her and all the genetic dynasty stuff.

Heard something interesting on a podcast:

Every $10K invested generates $1 every day.
So, if you have $10K saved, you can splurge $1 without affecting your savings. Probably not every day but OK to do it once in a while.

If you have a $1million, you can splurge $100. Simple rule to go by, I think.

Today’s phone lock screen.

Lobster claw nebula (Sh2-157) is a large emission nebula in the constellation of Cassiopeia at about 11000 light years. It is a stellar nursery and is shaped by radiation and stellar winds from a young massive star at its center.

Last night, took another crack at capturing the supernova SN2025rbs in NGC7331. It shines as bright as the galactic core. Other bright stars are the ones in foreground much closer to us and not from that galaxy.

This image is from 90 minutes of data.

This was very striking as I walked out of a cafe and looked up.

New supernova in NGC7331 (49 million light years away) was discovered last week. I could get only 5x1min exposures last night through the clouds. Even in this crappy image the supernova (above red arrow) is obvious on the right side of the galactic core.

Didn’t want to give up on this opportunity to hike at 9000+ ft elevation. This 2 mile hike from Schilthorn to Birg seemed as extraterrestrial as Mt. Haleakala crater hike in Maui.

If you stand on the main street in the middle of Interlaken, one is treated with this view of Mt. Jungfrau, the tallest mountain in the area around Interlaken.

Wild flowers and Grindlewald in the valley below.

On stage 14 with huge mountains to climb, Remco Evenepoel abandoned the race, Jonas made good attacks but Tadej matched those efforts handily, and Thymen Arensmen clinched a stage win for the Ineos team. Great to see new young riders in the race: 6 in top 10 riders are under 25 years old.

Lovely view from Thun castle.
