“Take Five” by Dave Brubeck is one of my most favorite Jazz pieces. Here is a cover by a Pakistani group called Sachal Studios. The tabla player is just amazing. He really kicks it up a few notches. cc @wrenman

Study abroad

As our daughter is getting ready for her semester abroad, we have to control our urge to help her as much as we can. We even briefly considered going with her to get her set up but realized how stupid that was. We have to keep reminding ourselves that even though we think of her as a child, she is an adult. It is going to take some time for us to get used to this. Even though this is the first time for her to travel out of the country by herself, this is not the first time she is traveling by herself and also not her first time going outside the country. Whatever happens on this trip (good or bad), this is the experience that she is seeking and will learn from it.

We look forward to visiting her in Edinburgh in November - half way through her semester there. I am sure we will hear about having to drag suitcases over cobblestones all by herself, lugging groceries on a bus, different brands of British food, figuring out British pounds and pence, getting used to and understanding Scottish accent and all the other fun stuff.

The Long View from Morningstar.com is one of the best financial podcasts about retirement planning. I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in this topic.

Yesterday was such a beautiful day. Sunny, 77F and low humidity. After being stuck in a car in traffic all morning long, I was glad I could go for a bike ride in the afternoon. Looks like this terrific weather is sticking around for rest of this week. High temps expected to be in 70s. What a relief!

Goldenrod and Queen Anne’s lace are blooming everywhere.

Found this huge and pretty caterpillar on today’s #bikeride . After some looking around, it is from giant silk moth family (probably Hyalophora cecropia). The moths have a wingspan of 15 cms. The caterpillar was also ~15 cms long and thicker than my thumb.

Another weekend in West Windsor, NJ.

All the heavy radioactive elements like Uranium and Plutonium are created in Supernovae where stars die and the times when neutron stars collide with each other. It is so human that we use these materials generated in epic stellar events to make atomic bombs to kill other human beings.

It was a still windless morning - perfect for all these reflection photos on today’s #bikeride along a coastal route with intersecting rivers.

Duck river on yesterday’s #bikeride .

Have switched over to this for the pleasure of having a G&T on weeknights.

Seeing rave reviews for Barbie from everyone including my kids. Hope it comes to streaming soon so I can watch it at home.

Not that I watched a lot of movies in the theater before but, haven’t been to one since the start of the pandemic. Last movie in a theater for me was the latest StarWars in ‘19.

Hi everyone! The whole damned world is burning. Let’s stop pretending that everything is OK.

Evening #bikeride yesterday to find some peace after a busy Monday at work. Strava file.

Hey @pratik : Booked our tickets to San Antonio to watch the annular solar eclipse on October 14th. It will be fabulous if you and family will be able to join us there. Fingers crossed for clear day.

With a late start for Tour de France this morning, I had enough time to go for a longer #bikeride . Bonked at mile 21. Thankfully had a granola bar to get me back home. Here is the Strava file.

Went for a quick #bikeride this morning as I didn’t want to miss much of today’s Tour de France stage coverage on TV.

After doing everything he could to help his team leader Vingegaard to become the race leader at Tour de France, Wout Van Aert left the race 4 days early to rush back home to be with his wife when she gave birth to their second son. What a guy! Is there anything he can’t do? I am a big fan.
